1.5GG to 16GG, Explained
Gauge (GG) is the number of needles per inch — it decides the weight, drape, and texture of your knit. Here is our full spectrum.

1.5 needles per inch — our coarsest gauge, knitting rope-like yarns into dense, sculptural fabric. Stitch columns are massive and read almost like hand-knitting; best for statement outerwear where weight and texture are the point.
1,200g – 2,000g
Deep Winter / Statement Outerwear
Our heaviest gauge for runway-scale silhouettes — slower to knit, so plan longer lead times.

3 needles per inch — the coarsest gauge and the chunkiest yarn. Builds heavy, lofty winter sweaters with bold, visible stitch texture; a favourite for hand-knitters chasing raw character, usually paired with thick wool for oversized outerwear shapes.
650g – 1,100g
Deep Winter / Heavy Outerwear
Ideal for streetwear oversized silhouettes, cable-knit statement pieces, and heavy outerwear with substantial hand-feel.

4 needles per inch — between our 3GG and 5GG. Keeps the bold hand-knit look with slightly more density and shape retention, a good bridge for heavy sweaters that still need structure.
700g – 950g
Winter
A practical heavy gauge for when 3GG feels too loose and 5GG too tight.

5 needles per inch — medium-chunky. Keeps a pronounced knit texture while adding density, ideal for mid-weight sweatshirts and cardigans; cables and tuck stitches add further shape.
480g – 750g
Autumn & Winter
The industry standard for authentic winter sweaters. High structural integrity and crisp definition for complex cable motifs.

6 needles per inch — sits between 5GG and 7GG. Cables and tuck textures stay crisp with a slightly finer surface than 5GG; useful when a design needs a chunky hand-feel but cleaner edges.
420g – 620g
Autumn / Winter
Fills the gap between classic chunky and graphic mid-gauge.

7 needles per inch — a transitional mid-gauge. Balances warmth and drape, the go-to for autumn/winter basic pullovers; classic cables read clearly without bulk.
380g – 550g
Fall / Winter / Early Spring
The sweet spot for multi-color graphic artwork, vintage washed treatments, and streetwear fashion drops.

9 needles per inch — the dividing line. A four-season balance: light enough to wear alone in spring, thin enough to layer in winter; suits commuting basics, handles worsted wool, and supports fine jacquard.
300g – 450g
Autumn / Spring / Layering
A versatile mid-gauge balancing definition and comfort — our go-to for polos, light cardigans and trans-seasonal layering.

12 needles per inch — the fine-gauge entry point. Produces light, structured spring/summer knits for polos and thin cardigans; mercerized cotton gives a subtle sheen, and machine jacquard stays precise.
220g – 360g
All-Season (Spring / Autumn / Layering)
The global benchmark for luxury merino, cashmere, and cotton everyday knits with sophisticated hand feel.

14 needles per inch — high-density fine gauge. Fine, soft fabric for close-fitting cashmere base layers, balancing hand-feel against cost.
160g – 260g
Spring / Summer / Indoor Office
Sleek and breathable. Delivers a soft, premium second-skin touch for elevated contemporary collections.

16 needles per inch — ultra-fine knitting. Silk-like drape for premium dresses; openwork lace edges require extra-fine yarn and precise knitting.
120g – 200g
